With fall right around the corner it’s time to start thinking about cold weather camping. To stay toasty warm, let’s do a quick refresher on using your Propex furnace.

Before firing it up the first time of the season or any time you’ve had your tank refilled, make sure the propane lines are full by turning on your propane and starting your stove and leaving it on for 10 seconds or so.

Then hop inside and hit the ‘flame’ button which will turn on the digital thermostat. Use the up and down arrows to set the desired temperature.

Once the set temperature is greater than the ambient (room) temperature the green LED will come on and the heater will start its ignition cycle. When a flame is successfully established the red LED will illuminate.

To turn off the heater press the ‘flame’ button for a couple seconds and release, the display will go off.

One of the most common calls we get at the Mothership has to do with the flashing red light on the thermostat which indicates a fault of some type.

The most common issue is the single flash which typically happens when the propane has not been turned on before turning on the furnace.

To clear the fault code, switch the unit off. Locate the small hole containing a concealed button in the bottom right-hand corner near the display. Then carefully insert the tip of a paperclip into the hole and gently press the button twice leaving 1 second between each press.

If the red light and fault returns check the thermostat instructions for more troubleshooting information. You can also check out the Vistabule troubleshooting guide in the members area of the website for more tips.

We hope this little refresher will save you a phone call or email. But if things still aren’t quite right, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
